HEART HEALTHY SUMMER SERIES: MEDITATION OF THE HEART

Psalm 19:14 (LESSON 7) July 15th, 2018

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight.”

Psalm 19:14

OPENING (PICK ONE OR MORE): If you had a conversation with God today, what would you like to talk to HIM about and what would you hope that HE would say to you? Is this type of conversation possible?

TEXT: Read Psalm 19 in your favorite translations. IF TIME PERMITS: read Psalm 19 at least 7 times.

1.         PSALM 19:1-6: How does the Lord reveal himself to you through creation? What attributes of the Lord are most evident to you from creation? What did creation reveal to David about who the Lord is and why He creates? Each day is an opportunity for the Lord to reveal HIS GLORY through creation. How can we let creation speak to us daily? Why is that a healthy exercise to do?

2.         PSALM 19:7-11: How does the Lord reveal himself to you through the written WORD? How did the Lord reveal himself to David? How does the written WORD impact our hearts? Each day is an opportunity for the Lord to SPEAK to us through the Scriptures. How would your spiritual journey be different if you spent each morning in the WORD, or better yet, how IS it different? Why is reading, meditating and memorizing Scripture a healthy discipline for us as believers?

3.         HEART: In Psalm 19:14, David is focused on his mouth and his heart. What does the phrase “meditation of my heart”, say to you? What would you say your heart has been meditating upon lately? Is your meditation pleasing and acceptable to the Lord? What is the relationship of our words and our meditation? What did Jesus want us to know about the relationship of our words with our heart (see Matthew 12:33-37; Luke 6:43-45)?

4.         DIG DEEPER: Describe how the written WORD will impact your spiritual walk with the Lord.

5.         MEDITATION: Find a time, a place and a translation of the Bible to practice spiritual meditation. Ask the Lord to speak to you and to reveal himself to you. Read, pray, listen and journal (if in a group, spend a few minutes quietly doing this with Psalm 19 and come together and share).

NEXT STEP:  Spend the week praying and journaling about your relationship with the Lord. Develop a strategy to listen to the Lord. What is the Lord saying to you at this moment? Share it with a friend!
